A Culture of Care: LPL Construction Recognised for Industry-Leading Health and Safety Standards

LPL Health and Safety award from Morgan Sindall

In the construction industry, health and safety is more than compliance, it is a life-saving discipline that must be embedded into every aspect of operations. At LPL Construction Services, health and safety is not just a legal obligation or operational consideration, it is a core foundation of how we work, plan, and lead.

This commitment has now been formally recognised by one of the UK’s leading contractors. LPL is proud to announce that we have received a Health and Safety Award from Morgan Sindall, a valued client and a major player in UK construction and infrastructure.

This recognition is not just a moment of pride, it is powerful external validation of the standards we uphold every day across all our sites and projects.

Morgan Sindall’s Commendation

In their award commendation, Morgan Sindall stated:

LPL have shown an impressive proactive safety culture and have embraced challenges from the past to best effect on our projects. We applauded Lawrence Stephens, the supervisor where had it not been for his actions on a project, then a significant incident would have occurred. This, in our opinion, reflects a positive safety culture adopted by LPL.

This quote highlights what we value most: a proactive, vigilant approach to safety. The action taken by our team member, Lawrence Stephens, potentially prevented a devastating accident that could have caused serious injury, or worse, to other contractors working on site. His instinct, experience, and leadership reflect the culture of care that defines LPL’s approach.

The Importance of Health and Safety in Construction

The construction industry is one of the most hazardous sectors in the UK. With heavy machinery, working at height, excavation, confined spaces, and dynamic site conditions, the risks to health and life are significant.

Health and safety isn’t just about wearing PPE or ticking a box on a risk assessment. It’s about foresight, training, culture, and accountability. A safe site is a productive site. A supported team is a strong team. And a proactive safety culture doesn’t just reduce incidents, it saves lives.

At LPL, we believe that every member of our workforce, whether directly employed or part of our extended supply chain, deserves to go home safely every day. This belief drives everything we do.

Safety: Built into the Core of LPL

Our approach to safety is embedded at every level of the organisation. It’s part of our onboarding, our daily planning, our leadership ethos, and our project delivery. The following highlights just a few of our initiatives showing just how central safety is to our culture:

Site Safety Measures and Leadership

  • In 2024, LPL conducted 240 formal site inspections, with an 8% increase planned in 2025 (target: 264).
  • Supervisor-led daily briefings and dynamic risk assessments are standard on every live project.
  • Vehicle turning circles are designed into site layouts to eliminate reversing, reducing the risk of vehicle-to-pedestrian incidents.

Employee Training and Safety Awareness

  • LPL delivered 849.75 hours of structured training in 2024, with a strong focus on safety and operational efficiency.
  • Safety training is mandatory across all levels and refreshed regularly.
  • A key target for 2024 is the wider rollout of mental health awareness training, reinforcing the importance of holistic safety, including psychological wellbeing.

Supply Chain Health and Safety Standards

  • All suppliers undergo rigorous pre-qualification checks, including SH&E (Safety, Health and Environment) compliance, anti-slavery policies, and evidence of fair working conditions.
  • Suppliers working in airside airport environments must meet strict insurance and safety criteria, with additional oversight from LPL’s compliance team.
  • Internal audits are routinely conducted to verify that supply chain partners maintain the highest safety and sustainability standards.

Environmental and Risk Management

  • Environmental audits are regularly conducted on LPL sites to ensure proper waste management and mitigate risks such as contamination to watercourses and protected habitats.
  • Risk of environmental hazards is reduced through controlled disposal systems, proactive planning, and site-specific mitigation strategies.

Recognised and Certified

  • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management
  • CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) – Health and safety compliance
  • Alcumus SafeContractor – Risk management and contractor safety
  • Constructionline – Verified pre-qualification for construction buyers

These accreditations are not just badges, they’re evidence of our ongoing dedication to maintaining and exceeding industry benchmarks for safe working practices, training, and compliance.

Recognition That Reflects a Broader Commitment

Receiving this Health and Safety Award from Morgan Sindall is a meaningful milestone, but it’s also a reflection of what we strive for every day. It demonstrates that industry leaders see and respect the safety culture we have created, and trust us as a contractor that prioritises people, not just programmes.

This award also belongs to every LPL team member, from supervisors like Lawrence Stephens who act decisively, to apprentices learning the right way from day one, to our commercial, operational, and compliance teams who ensure every project is built on the foundation of safety. Safety is not a department. It’s not a checklist item. It’s a mindset.

At LPL Construction Services, safety is the standard, not the exception. It is at the heart of everything we do, from our internal culture to the way we manage supply chains, design our sites, and deliver for our clients.

This award from Morgan Sindall confirms what we already know: when you lead with care, you lead with confidence.

Because in construction, building safely is the only way to build well.
