Inspiring the Next Generation: LPL Attends Helena Romanes School Careers Fair

It was great to attend the recent Careers Fair at Helena Romanes School & Sixth Form Centre, where students from Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 had the opportunity to explore future career pathways and gain first-hand insights into the world of work.

Our team was on hand to speak with students about life at LPL, offering guidance on careers in construction and answering questions about the variety of roles available, from hands-on site work to technical and professional careers in project management, surveying, and design. The event provided a valuable opportunity to inspire local schoolchildren and showcase how rewarding a career in construction can be.

Promoting Diversity and Inclusion in Construction

The construction industry has traditionally been male-dominated, but at LPL we are committed to promoting gender equality and encouraging more young women to consider careers in the sector. During the event, our team highlighted real opportunities for girls interested in construction, whether they’re drawn to engineering, site work, design, or project management.
We believe diversity strengthens teams and fuels innovation, which is why promoting inclusive career pathways is a key part of our community engagement and social value strategy.

Apprenticeships: Real Routes Into the Industry

For many young people, apprenticeships offer a practical and exciting route into construction, and at LPL, we actively invest in them. In 2024, we employed:

  • Carpentry Apprentice in our Manchester office, working three days a week on site and one day at Warrington College as part of an NVQ qualification.
  • Quantity Surveying Apprentice based at our Head Office, combining four days of hands-on experience with one day of study per week at Anglia Ruskin University.

These apprenticeships not only provide valuable on-the-job training but also create real opportunities for long-term career progression within the company. You can read more about our approach to apprenticeships in our recent article:  Building the Future: Why Apprenticeships are Vital to LPL and the Construction Industry.

Supporting Local Talent

LPL are regular supporters of local careers fairs, consistently engaging with schools and organisations to help raise awareness of career opportunities in construction. In recent months, we’ve attended:

  • The SEND Careers Day hosted by Castledon School in September 2024
  • The Stansted Airport Job Fair in March 2025

We believe in providing local career opportunities and promoting from within to help our people grow. Our ongoing involvement in job fairs and school events reflects our commitment to nurturing young talent, breaking down barriers to entry, and creating accessible career pathways for all.
