Building the Future: Why Apprenticeships Are Vital to LPL and the Construction Industry

At LPL Construction Services, our commitment to building stronger communities extends far beyond the projects we deliver. It’s embedded in the way we invest in people, creating opportunities for growth, supporting long-term development, and fostering a culture of care and inclusion.
As the UK construction sector continues to face a growing skills shortage, it’s more important than ever for companies like ours to lead by example, offering clear routes into the industry and supporting individuals on their journey. Apprenticeships form a key part of our strategy to help close this gap and ensure we have the right talent to build for tomorrow.
Investing in the Next Generation
Max – Carpentry & Joinery Apprentice – Aviation Sector, Manchester
Working on one of our ongoing aviation projects in Manchester, our carpentry and joinery apprentice is gaining hands-on experience in a highly regulated, fast-paced environment. From internal fit-outs to bespoke installations, he is learning not only traditional skills but also how to work safely, collaboratively, and efficiently on a live airport site.
Exposure to complex projects so early in his career offers invaluable insight, and sets a strong foundation for both technical development and professional growth.
Stanley – Junior Quantity Surveyor – Head Office, Elsenham
Based at our head office in Elsenham, our junior quantity surveyor is immersed in the financial side of project delivery, cost planning, procurement, valuations, and contractor management. He’s learning how decisions on paper translate into real-world outcomes and is already demonstrating a strong understanding of the commercial side of the construction cycle.
We understand that technical training is only one part of a successful apprenticeship. At LPL, we believe every individual, regardless of role or location, deserves consistent, meaningful support throughout their development.
That’s why we provide all our apprentices with:
● Assigned mentors who guide, support, and offer advice both professionally and personally
● Regular one-to-one sessions and structured feedback to track progress and build confidence
● Inclusion in wider company activities, ensuring they feel connected to the business, not siloed
● Access to development planning, performance reviews, and continued learning opportunities
● A workplace culture that prioritises welfare, mental health awareness, and open communication
Whether on site in Manchester or in the commercial team at Elsenham, our apprentices receive the same level of care, investment, and opportunity. They’re encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas, and develop a holistic understanding of the industry.
Bridging the Skills Gap with Opportunity
The construction industry faces a clear challenge: fewer young people are entering the sector, while experienced professionals are reaching retirement age. This leaves a gap, not only in numbers, but in knowledge transfer, innovation, and leadership.
Apprenticeships offer a direct, long-term solution. They give individuals a viable and supported way into construction and help futureproof the industry for the years ahead. At LPL, we’re not only committed to offering those opportunities, we’re committed to ensuring they lead somewhere.
That means creating a work environment where every apprentice can see a future, where there are clear paths to progression, and where success is achievable through hard work and support, not just qualifications or background.
Career Progression at LPL
Open, accessible progression is a core part of the LPL culture. Many of our senior team members began in entry-level roles and advanced through training, mentorship, and experience.
We actively encourage all employees, apprentices included, to take ownership of their development. Whether they want to specialise, gain chartered status, or step into management, we provide the resources and opportunities to help them get there.
Apprenticeships aren’t the end point, they’re just the beginning.
Apprenticeships as a Long-Term Investment
The benefits of apprenticeships are felt across every part of our business. They bring fresh energy, new perspectives, and a drive to learn that lifts the wider team. As the construction industry continues to evolve, embracing digital tools, sustainable materials, and modern methods of delivery, having young, adaptable talent is not just valuable, it’s essential.
At LPL Construction Services, our apprenticeship programme is a key part of our Community pillar, centred on people, progression, and long-term impact.
Supporting apprenticeships isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s a strategic investment in the future of LPL, our clients, and the construction industry as a whole.
We’re proud of the apprentices already contributing to our success and excited for the future they represent. By providing structured learning, meaningful experience, and ongoing support, we’re not just training individuals, we’re shaping the next generation of construction professionals.
Because when we build careers with care, we build a stronger industry for everyone.
