Speaking Up Matters: LPL’s Whistleblowing Policy is a Culture of Trust, Not Fear

LPL Whistle Blowing Policy

In recognition of World Whistleblowers’ Day 2025, LPL Construction Services is reaffirming its commitment to ethical leadership, transparent communication, and the safety of our people and projects.
In an industry as complex and high-risk as construction, where multiple contractors, suppliers, and teams operate side by side, creating an environment where concerns can be raised safely is essential. Whether it’s to report unsafe practices, unethical behaviour, or legal violations, whistleblowing plays a vital role in protecting people, businesses, and reputations.

Why Whistleblowing Matters in Construction

Construction remains one of the most regulated sectors in the UK. Strict health and safety protocols, environmental compliance, and ethical sourcing aren’t just boxes to tick, they are critical safeguards. But with pressure, pace, and complexity often at play, the risk of mistakes or misconduct is real.
Despite the risks, many employees across the sector hesitate to speak up due to fear of retaliation or uncertainty about how to raise a concern. At LPL, we view whistleblowing differently. It isn’t about blame, it’s about responsibility. When someone raises a concern, it allows us to respond quickly, learn, and improve.
That’s why we work to foster a culture of openness, accountability, and support at every level of our organisation.

LPL’s Approach: A Trusted and Transparent Process

At the heart of our approach is a clear and confidential Whistleblowing Policy, which applies to everyone in our business, from employees and contractors to agency staff and interns.

  • The policy is built around three core principles:
Encouragement – We actively encourage colleagues to report concerns, knowing they will be taken seriously.
  • Confidentiality – All disclosures are treated with strict confidence. Identities are protected and only shared with consent if necessary.
  • Protection – We maintain zero tolerance for retaliation. Anyone raising concerns in good faith is safeguarded against any form of disciplinary action or discrimination.

Concerns can be raised informally with a line manager or directly with a senior member of our Compliance Team, including the Compliance Manager or Compliance Director.

For added reassurance, individuals can also seek confidential advice from Protect, the UK’s leading whistleblowing charity: https://protect-advice.org.uk

Every concern is assessed carefully, investigated where appropriate, and addressed with discretion and professionalism.

What Can Be Reported?

Our whistleblowing policy covers a range of serious concerns, including:

  • Breaches of health and safety or environmental regulations
  • Financial misconduct, bribery, or corruption
  • Criminal activity or regulatory violations
  • Behaviour that could damage LPL’s reputation
  • Concealment of wrongdoing

Personal employment disputes or grievances should be raised via our separate grievance procedure.

Ethics in Action: Training and Accountability

Whistleblowing is one part of a wider strategy at LPL to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and corporate responsibility.
In the past 12 months, our teams completed over 849 hours of structured training, with more than 225 hours focused on ethical topics including:

  • Whistleblowing
  • Modern Slavery
  • Anti-Bribery and Anti-Tax Evasion
  • Diversity, Equality & Inclusion
  • Bullying & Harassment
  • GDPR
  • Unconscious Bias

In 2024 alone, we ran four dedicated whistleblowing sessions and distributed a company-wide briefing on modern slavery, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to educating our workforce.
These initiatives extend beyond employees. We offer free training to supply chain partners, supporting shared standards of integrity, fairness, and social responsibility.

A Culture Backed by Policy and Practice

LPL’s Code of Conduct reinforces our stance on ethical working and supplier relationships. It includes a strong focus on:

  • Human rights
  • Anti-slavery and child labour
  • Equal pay and fair working conditions
  • Voluntary employment practices
  • Environmental and social responsibility

As of 2024, zero cases of whistleblowing, corruption, or data breaches have been reported at LPL between 2022 and 2024, a testament to both the effectiveness of our controls and the strength of our culture.

We don’t just have policies, we create the conditions that give those policies meaning.

Building with Integrity, Speaking Up with Confidence

Having a policy is important. But what truly matters is the culture that surrounds it.
At LPL Construction Services, whistleblowing is not a tick-box exercise, it’s a reflection of our values. From site operatives to senior leaders, we believe everyone has a role in protecting our people, clients, and reputation. Speaking up should feel safe, supported, and effective, and we’re proud to have built a business where it is.

Because building responsibly means creating the space to speak up, before things go wrong.
