LPL were awarded the contract to deliver this temporary Security building in 2019. This was a fast-paced Design and Build project to support the operational needs of Stansted Airport.

LPL are proud with the speed and efficiency of its teams to successfully build this within eight and a half weeks from start of steel frame install to handover. The project had 45 people onsite at peak. The site was very constrained by the live passenger operation, the Network Rail station below and the bus drop off and pick up zone adjacent to the site access and egress areas. Demolition and new construction works were also completed within Central Search during operational periods with intrusive works scheduled around the peak passenger periods.

A complex logistics plan was developed and communicated to all stakeholders during the build stage to ensure all parties were aware of the intended plan and any comments received were incorporated where possible and the agreed plan issued to all. Communication was key to forward progression and helped to mitigated any unplanned impacts to the operation. The site was made Landside during the construction period and on completion the building was split to Landside and Airside areas to support the passenger screening process.

The build was delivered with a mixture of days, night and weekends to ensure passengers and staff were not inhibited at any stage and passenger experience maintained. The LPL team delivered 825m2 of additional space to a tight deadline that necessitated acceleration of the contract programme to achieve the dates required by Manchester Airport Group.

LPL work force completed the work with the support of specialist third party contractors.
